Airbus and its partners have signed an architecture study contract with NAHEMA, the NATO agency responsible for the NH90 programme, for the Block 2 modernization of the NH90 helicopter.
Announced in Marignane, France, the two-year study aims to adapt the NH90 platform to future operational requirements. The upgrade package includes structural improvements such as modular avionics, higher configuration commonality, enhanced maintenance processes, and improved performance.
The project also plans to integrate next-generation capabilities, including crewed-uncrewed teaming, advanced connectivity, and collaborative combat concepts. Airbus Helicopters CEO Matthieu Louvot stated that the NH90 has surpassed 500,000 flight hours, demonstrating its operational maturity and continued relevance, while evolving to meet NATO’s future needs.
